The nearly two dozen beaches around Ericeira are recognized for their clean waters and for being rich in minerals. The majority of them provide the necessary conditions to spend a pleasant day at the beach on the Atlantic Ocean – Wheelchair access, lifeguard surveillance, showers, sunshade rental and modern beach bars.
Some of said beaches, such as the beaches of Calada, Foz do Lisandro, São Julião or São Lourenço have a rough natural beauty, with an extensive sand area among the steep cliffs.
There are other beaches, more suitable for the family, such as the beaches of the North, Pescadores, São Sebastião or the beach of Baleia. These may be found in the village and may be easily accessed by simply walking from Casa dos Pátios.
In case the priority is sports, note that Ericeira is widely-regarded as one of the best beaches in Europe for the practice of surf, hosting annually a round of the ASP World Tour Surf Championship.
The surfing spots, such as Coxos break point, Cave, Crazy Left, Pedra Branca, Reef, Pontinha and Ribeira d’Ilhas, have made Ericeira become part of the prestigious and exclusive list of World Surfing Reserves.
